"Maximum Force" Maxwell Lord confides in Martian Manhunter about his newly developing powers from the Gene Bomb dropped by the Dominators during the Invasion! event.[1] On his way back, Max spots an attractive woman, Wanda, during a cocktail mixer. After toying with the ethics, he "nudges" her into talking to him and the two hit it off though Max drinks a little too much and as the two return to his room they are confronted by Lord Evil! Max, however, shakes off his intoxication and "convinces" Lord Evil to jump from the window and informs Wanda that he is more than Maxwell Lord, that he is really a superhero named Maximum Force! Now costumed he flies around the city looking for people to help; first he stops an armed robbery by convincing the assailant to shoot himself. Next he convinces two men in a drug deal to kill one another, until he discovers a thief named Masked Robber and commands him to beat himself up. Finally a giant ape is attempting to climb the Empire State Building and Max commands it to fall off - not thinking about the people below until too late. After returning to the Justice League Embassy he find the Justice League International defeated by Massivetron whom he inadvertently tells to "drop dead" causing the villain to do so. The other members of the League vilify him and the army arrive to arrest him. Max then wakes up in his bed, the previous adventure having been only a dream, he finds Wanda in his guest bed and phones J'onn to confirm. Batman, who was in a meeting with J'onn, is left in shock when he hears.
